Regarding Covid-19: Due to the numbers placed on gathering restrictions, we need your cooperation in only signing up for events that you can truly commit to attending. 

Masks are mandatory when gathering at the beginning and end of our events. Additionally, we strongly recommend masks be worn during the activity (but are not required as long as physical distance is being maintained) - if group members are closer than 6 feet apart they MUST wear a mask covering their mouth and nose. Please review our full Covid-19 policy and safety practices here

Happy Trails Hikes are about movement, connection, and getting out on to the trails in or around Winnipeg during the week. This series of hikes, happening on select weeknight evenings is open to all levels and is designed to connect with like-minded individuals from the Backcountry Women community.

Theme: In line with our dedication to environmental responsibility and Leave No Trace, we will clean the trail with removal of any garbage during this hike.

Arrival Time: by 6:15 PM. We will begin the hike no later than 6:30 PM. The time arranged allows for you to have time to attend to personal needs such as organizing your gear and for the leaders to share information with the group. 


LocationSilver Springs Park in the town of Birds Hill and Duff Roblin Parkway. These two trails are part of the Great Trail that extends 27,000 KM across Canada. The Great Trail is the longest recreational trail in the world and offers a wide range of activities including hiking, cycling, and paddling through a variety of landscapes in urban, rural and wilderness settings. 


Backcountry Women acknowledges that this hike will take place on Treaty 1 Territory

Overall Difficulty Rating: due to the factors mentioned below, this activity is rated a 1/5.

This rating is subject to change based on prevailing conditions at the time of the activity, including but not limited to weather.

Duration/Distance: The walk will be two hours in length. We will walk in one direction for an hour before turning around to return to trail head. Distance will be approximately 6 - 7 KM.

Experience: Be comfortable hiking in the dark and have a light source with you to use if / when needed. You should have the ability to walk with the group (while physically distancing) at a slow to moderate pace for the duration of the activity and come to the activity with appropriate outerwear and layers. 
Terrain:   Packed limestone, gravel, and asphalt. There are some gradual inclines and declines. There is approximately 550 meters of road-walking to connect Silver Springs Park to Duff Roblin Parkway. Trail is suitable for all levels.
Pace: This activity will be at a slow to moderate pace.
