Regarding COVID-19: Due to the numbers placed on gathering restrictions, we need your cooperation in only signing up for events that you can truly commit to attending. 

Masks are mandatory when gathering at the beginning and end of our events. Additionally, we recommend masks be worn during the activity (but are not required as long as physical distance is being maintained) - if group members are closer than 6 feet apart they MUST wear a mask covering their mouth and nose. Please review our full Covid-19 policy and safety practices here.

Join us for a Backcountry Women "Adventure Women" hike at Tunnel Island in Ontario (right before Kenora).

PLEASE NOTE: If there are any changes with requirements and restrictions for crossing provincial borders, participants will be contacted with an alternative plan.

Arrival Time: Arrive by 9 AM. We will begin the hike no later than 9:30 AM. The time arranged allows for you to attend to personal needs such as organizing your gear and for leaders to share information with the group. 


Location: Tunnel Island trail. Trailhead is located just before Kenora, ON.


Backcountry Women acknowledges that this land was gifted to the City of Kenora, Grand Council Treaty #3 and the communities of local First Nations.

Overall Difficulty Rating: due to the factors mentioned below, this activity is rated a 3/5.

This rating is subject to change based on prevailing conditions at the time of the activity, including but not limited to weather.

Duration/Distance: 8-11 KM 
Experience: This event is open to participants with an average level of fitness who have some hiking experience. You must have the ability to walk with the group at a moderate pace for the duration of the activity and come to the activity with appropriate footwear, gear and outerwear.

Terrain: The trail leads through dense pine forest, grasslands and rocky shorelines with mixed terrain. There are multiple rocky climbs and descents. 

Pace: Moderate with a break for a lunch and additional stops for water as needed. 

Please keep dogs at home.
