Escape the city and embrace the true magic of winter with Backcountry Women! This exciting weekend getaway offers a mix of exhilarating outdoor activities and cozy camaraderie in Kenora, Ontario. Co-hosted with Mosswood Adventures and Rentals, we’ve put together a fun filled overnight weekend for all skill levels and adventure interests. Activities include: exploring winter hiking trails, a fire building session & bonfire, fun at the local ski and recreation area (snowshoe, snow tube, cross country ski, downhill options), ice biking on a frozen lake, plus fun group dining and cafe visits! This fun and community focused event offers the chance to explore all Kenora offers in the winter, and the unique beauty of spending the winter enjoying the Canadian Shield landscape.

- Arrival Time: we will meet promptly at Mount Evergreen at 9:45 am, Saturday, Feb 22. Give yourself wiggle room in your schedule to ensure you arrive on time! Please see more details below for the timeline and overnight accommodation options (participants from outside Kenora should stay Saturday night, and optionally consider staying Friday). - We recommend you purchase the registrations in this event for BOTH days. Registration fees include a high quality event, knowledgeable winter event leader, skill building, ice biking, and local guide. Prices are subsidized by sponsorship. You are responsible for extras like overnight accomodations, ski / trail passes, lessons, rentals, food. Do not hesitate to reach out with any questions and we look forward to a fun filled weekend together!
- Here's what adventures awaits you throughout this weekend!:
Day 1:
- Snow Day Fun: We'll connect at Mount Evergreen Ski And Recreation Area to kick off our weekend of fun. Join in on a snowshoe adventure as we start our day (there will be rentals for $15 available, and participants may be subject to $5 trail fee).
In the afternoon, enjoy activities you choose such as tubing, downhill skiing / snowboarding, cross-country skiing, or snowshoeing. A cross country or downhill ski lesson will be available for those interested for a fee. (NOTE: you'll get a group rate at the ski hill with us!) We'll match up participants with similar activity interests so you'll have an afternoon adventure buddy, and we'll plan chalet meet ups as a group!
We'll have some various limited equipment to lend during Day 1, and rentals are available, so don't worry if you don't have your own! NOTE: helmets are mandatory at our event for downhill activities.
- Evening Delights: Warm up with a fun group dinner followed by an optional tour to check out the best of Kenora.
Day 2:
- Frozen Lake Fun: We'll get our morning started right with an exciting ice biking adventure on Rabbit Lake / Lake of the Woods. We'll also have a fire and other activities going on the ice! Start time will depend on forecasted conditions.
- Fireside Skills: Learn some essential fire-building skills (conditions permitting).
- Cafe Stop: We'll have time set aside for lunch / breaks for some fun indulgences!
- Scenic Hike: Enjoy a rejuvenating hike to wrap up the weekend prior to parting ways. In the event of extreme cold we'll have an alternative to the hike planned.
- ESTIMATED DEPARTURE FROM KENORA (based on group flexibility) - by 4:00* Note: we will do our best to stay flexible as a group and make adjustments as needed however we ask that you remain flexible on timing for this weekend.
- Overnight Options: Choose from a 1-night or 2-night stay for maximum flexibility. PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR SUGGESTIONS ON ACCOMMODATIONS TO BOOK FOR THIS WEEKEND. Regarding accommodations that could be shared such as cabins, if you would like to share with another participant please reach out at ashley.backcountrywomen@gmail.com - be sure to indicate if you are staying Fri + Saturday, or Saturday only. We will share contacts among participants to coordinate so you can book together.
